Posted on Tuesday, March 8th, 2016
Soaked grounds and a forecast threatening more thunderstorms accompanied by lightning for Friday has caused organizers to set a new date for the planned dedication of the Legacy Park Recreational Trail.
The trail was to have been formally opened at 8:30 a.m. Friday, March 11. Instead, the dedication and full schedule of events will now take place on Monday, March 21.
Schools and running and walking groups will participate as planned (See Schedule).
Heavy thunderstorms on Monday and Tuesday created muddy conditions around the paved recreational trail, hampering preparations. The weather forecast called for a 60%-70% chance of thunderstorms on Friday.
The recently completed trail is the first recrreational amenity to open in Legacy Park. the park occupies 10 acres north of Mercy Health/Love County Hospital.
Entry to the recreational trail is at 466 Legacy Park Lane. The trail entry is bordered by the hospital on the west and the new Growers Market building on the east.
The trail is 10 feet wide and follows a 1/2-mile, paved loop for walkers, joggers, cyclists, skaters, and wheelchair users.
Between the trail and the market, the park is intended to create opportunities for the people of Love County to engage in regular physical activity and purchase farm-fresh fruits and vegetables.
County Commissioner District workers constructed the recreational trail. Managementof the project has been under the direction of the hospital. Community volunteers with the Love County Community Coalition Health & Fitness Committee, the Love County Senior Program, and the Love County Master Gardeners provide advisory services.
